Learning on the Water
October 18th, 2009The weather was sunny, the water was calm, and the students were lined up on the dock ready for the student cruise. Cruisemaster John Neely had organized four boats and proctors, and we set out for an enjoyable morning afloat.

Back on the dock and off to lunch at the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club organized by Roger Patterson. Does it get any better? ![]()

First Class, September 8, 2009
September 9th, 2009Tuesday evening, September 8 was the first night of the Fall 2009 Safe Boating Class. As the students arrived (no doubt wondering what they had gotten themselves into!) the Juan de Fuca Squadron Bridge prepared for our first executive meeting of the season.
Students found their places and got themselves settled in the roomy classroom with the oh, so distracting windows. I hope you didn’t feel too overwhelmed....there’s a lot to take in and a short amount of time to learn it all.
Brian got things underway, and the executive gathered around the table to begin the meeting’s business. But first greetings were in order and it was good to reconnect again and hear about everyone’s summer news.
There were a couple of new faces in the group and many others who have been involved in the Squadron previously. Looks like a good group!
So, as we get off to a fresh start, let’s begin a blog of the season.
What are your thoughts after the first class?
